50 magnetic badges for Lyon CyberExpo
Elysium Security wanted visitors to tour the trade show. We designed a hexagonal badge worn around the neck, whose six blocks are collected stand after stand, then produced it in series.

The brief
A trade show journey you hold in your hand
The "Mission Résilience" journey relies on one object: a hexagonal shield worn around the neck. Visitors scan the central QR code, sign up, then collect six blocks from partner stands, one per domain: Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover. Once the badge is complete, their participation is validated. Elysium Security sent us a visual. Our job was to turn it into an object that stays on a lanyard for two days of trade show.
The constraints
What made the object hard
- 01
Blocks that hold upright
The badge hangs against the chest. The blocks must not fall when the visitor walks, leans over or shakes hands.
- 02
Removable by hand, no tools
A tight fit would hold the blocks but make them impossible to remove. It had to do both.
- 03
No glare under spotlights
The graphics must stay legible under exhibition hall lighting, head-on and at an angle.
- 04
A date that will not move
The show opened on 16 September. Three weeks of production, starting from receipt of the final cutting file.
The part, taken apart

- 01
The base plate
A hexagon with a slot that fits any standard badge clip. Six slots, one per domain, around the central QR code.
- 02
Six removable blocks
Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover. Each block sits in its slot with a clearance fit and stands slightly proud of the plate for grip.
- 03
Twelve facing magnets
One magnet at the bottom of each slot, one under each block. The block drops in and holds upright; two notches are enough to release it.
- 04
Fifty units
350 printed parts, 600 magnets fitted and checked. Each badge is deburred, measured and individually bagged.
Our technical choices
How we solved it
- 01
Parametric modelling
The badge and its six blocks were traced vertex by vertex from the client's vector artwork. Every dimension stays editable, so the format can change without redrawing everything. STL and STEP files are handed over to the client.
- 02
Twelve facing neodymium magnets
Six in the plate, six in the blocks. The magnets are not optional: they allow a loose fit, hence removal with a finger, while holding each block upright.
- 03
Two finger notches per slot
They release each block in one move, no fingernail or tool required.
- 04
A full prototype before the run
A magnetic unit was delivered before any commitment to the series. It let the client judge, part in hand, how the blocks hold, the real weight around the neck, the finish under lighting and the strength of the attachment point.
- 05
Matte PLA and matte laminated wrap
Matte charcoal black absorbs light. The wrap, a full-colour printed vinyl with matte lamination, is cut to shape and applied front and back in the studio.
