Nylon (polyamide, PA6 or PA12) is the high-end technical filament: exceptional mechanical and fatigue resistance, self-lubricating, ideal for functional parts under friction, impact or continuous wear. Gears, hinges, slides, production parts.

Pour quels projets choisir le Nylon ?
Nylon is king of parts in permanent motion: gear running 1000 h/year, hinge opening 100 times a day, slide, cam. Fatigue resistance (repeated cycles) unmatched in accessible FDM.
Chemically resistant to oils, greases, hydrocarbons — perfect for workshop parts seeing penetrating oil, cutting fluid. Surface is naturally slick (self-lubricating), reducing friction without grease.
For functional small batches (10-200 industrial parts), Nylon offers consistency, durability and strength expected of injection molding — at 10× less tooling cost.
Limites du Nylon
Hygroscopic: absorbs air moisture in hours and becomes unprintable (brittle prints, clicking at extrusion). Vacuum-store or use dessicant; dry 6-8h at 80 °C before printing if open >24h.
Print-wise: high-temp nozzle (260-275 °C), heated enclosure recommended for large parts, tricky bed adhesion (PA slides on glass). Not beginner-friendly.
Cost: €60-90/kg, 3× PETG. Waste on non-stressed parts. Worth it on parts that must last.

Questions fréquentes sur le Nylon
PA6: stronger mechanically, stiffer, absorbs more moisture. PA12: dimensionally stabler, less hygroscopic, slightly less strong. For humid environment: PA12. For pure strength: PA6.
